Isn’t Cashback Just As Good As Points?

April 23rd, 2020

Cash is king. At least until you get into the points game. Would you rather have 1.5% cash back or 15% cash value towards travel? 15% may seem exaggerated, but that is what people we coach see consistently on their spends. How? By consistently getting new card sign-up bonuses.

The challenge with cashback cards are

  1. The bonuses are comparatively limited
  2. There just aren’t many of them

For example, there are 28 cards offering over $500+ in travel as a signup bonus. There are only 4 cashback cards -- and all of those are business cards.

What about points that can be used for cash or travel? 60,000 Chase points, as an example, is worth $600 cash... OR $900-$1200 in travel.

It’s really not that complicated

You might be thinking, “I don’t want to learn all of the portals and rules.” It’s really not that complicated. Capital One just reimburses travel you purchase normally. Chase has a portal that is similar to booking travel on Expedia or Kayak.

The Points Navigator is specifically designed to help you maximize your travel points without you having to do the research. We even coach you on easily using those points to book travel.
