Why You Might Want This Card

Show Me the Money

This is a cash back card, but not all cash back cards are created equally. Here are some positives, this particular one has no annual fee, there actually is a sign up bonus, it’s small but there, and you can get 3% cashback on dining and entertainment. Dining is broad, including cafes, bars and even take-out for those lock down kinda situations.

Spending my Cash Back Money

Capital One makes redeeming rewards surprisingly simple. This card is no exception. Get Cash Back in the form of a statement credit or a check with no minimum requirement. It does have some surprise perks along with the welcome bonus, you get Travel Accident Insurance, Extended Warranty and one of the best credit card mobile apps that is currently available. Even with all of these seemingly positive things, I have never had this card and never intend to, why? Let’s get down to the bottom line.

Bottom Line

While you do get a sign up bonus, it’s less than $200 and 3% back is pretty average, if not on the lower end, especially because it’s category specific. You could downgrade to this card if you have other Capital One cards with annual fees, downgrading doesn’t qualify as applying for a card so it won’t affect your credit. Overall, not a great card if it’s going to tip one of your rules, there are plenty of other ones with much better welcome bonus and / or don’t have specified categories, like the Citi Premier Card or the Capital One Spark Cash Business.

Application Rules

Your application will be declined if 5 new cards are reported on your personal credit report in the past 24 months

What to Know Before Canceling

With no annual fee, unless there is a specific reason, we usually leave cards open to maintain the relationship with the bank.
